Packing for More!

2 Jan

This week is going to be crazy! I’ll be boarding a coach back to Nottinghamshire tomorrow and seeing my bloke after over two weeks apart, on Friday I’ll be celebrating five years of being with my boy with a yummy meal at YoSushi and some cocktails at All Bar One and Saturday will see me head off to London for two weeks! I’m knackered thinking about it.

Yup, I’m heading to the Big Smoke for a Very Big Deal. Being a More! mini blogger over summer was one of the highlights of 2011. I was so thankful to be picked from so many entries and it was great getting to know some of the other bloggers through Facebook and Twitter. The More! staff come across so lovely (especially you two, Ms Millar and Ms Perry!) and when the chance came up to do work experience at the London offices, I snapped it up quicker than a Mulberry bag in a £1 sale.

I’m hoping I’ll get to help out on a few different departments. I’d love to see a fashion shoot put together and I bet the ladies on the beauty desk have some top tips! And what about features? I love writing. And there’s the news desk filled with celeb gossip! This gig is a girly girls dream and I’m so lucky.

But what is one to wear? Losing nearly 40lb in the past four months has changed my style a little; I’m now not too scared to wear a shorter hemline and my new bright pink blazer is an incredible four dress sizes smaller so that’s a favourite, for sure.

I’m staying with my beautiful friend so I’m having to pack light. Babyliss Big Hair? Check. Elemis cleanser and moisturiser? Check. Can’t-live-without-them-NARS products? Of course! But then there’s the clothing and I’ve never really had to put together a capsule wardrobe before. I want my clothing to say fun and creative but serious with a lot of colour and some classic staples like well-fitting jeans and black t-shirts. Have a peek at my potential capsule picks and tell me how you organise your wardrobe:

Hummingbird Bakery notebooks.

21 Mar

The lovely @fashionambition (editor of Sketchbook magazine) has been tweeting about the Hummingbird Bakery this afternoon and it’s got me totally drooling and craving to be living back in London. I miss post-work cupcakes and weekend strolls to the V&A followed by a red velvet and a Diet Coke out of a glass bottle….ahhh!

Anyway, enough reminiscing, all that talk about the place reminded me of these Hummingbird Bakery notebooks I came across on the John Lewis site. If you’re not content with having the Hummingbird Bakery cookbook sitting on your shelf, how about writing down your own recipies in these books? Or they’d look great on your desk in your office or study.

At £10 for a set of four, I think they’re a great bargain. I for one will be sticking them down on my birthday wish-list!

Pocket mirrors from Spaceform.

26 Jan

Spaceform are such a sweet brand, they produce gorgeous items made from glass and each piece is individually hand crafted so you know you have something unique and one-off. Their chic and classic packaging also means that, if buying a gift, you don’t have to spend an age on fiddly bits of sticky tape and ribbon.

There’s so much to choose from on the Spaceform website. Personally, I adore the London collection as it reminds me of when I lived there. Those looking for a unique Valentine’s gift should take a peek at their love and romance collection and Spaceform also stock stylish glass vases that would look great filled with bright flowers and placed on a desk to cheer up your day.

I think the Spaceform hand painted mirrors make such great gifts. Complete with a felt and ribbon case, the mirrors are hand painted and made with such care and attention. At £14.95, the provide a cute and girly gift in a range of styles to suit any age. Here’s a few examples…

A tropical themed pocket mirror which would look great in any beach bag:

I’ve got my eye on this rose print one to give to my mum for Valentine’s day:

Introducing Valli Colpani.

1 Dec

Valli Colpani is a name I’m quickly falling in love with: her exquisite dresses provide a chic Italian look with the quirky edge of London cool. The designer has a huge loyal fan base spanning across Britain and America and is the gem of Portobello.

When I spotted the red crepe wool Punta dress I knew I had to showcase it on Florals and Cupcakes. This beautiful LRD (Little Red Dress) is perfect for the Christmas party season and beyond. This figure-hugging dress, with a plunging neckline, acts as a statement of classic femininity whilst the bold red colour exudes confidence. Pair with a metallic clutch and heels for a guaranteed kiss under the mistletoe this December.

See the designer’s website for more details.
