Taylor Swift for Vogue

18 Jan

Things have been crazy busy at More! when I’m currently doing work experience. If I’m not writing news features for the web then I’m sourcing celeb gossip or out interviewing the likes of Wayne Hemmingway. It’s all incredible and I’ll do a longer post next week about my experience.

Just wanted to blog about the stunning photos of Taylor Swift for Vogue that have hit the web today. Taylor has always been one of my favourite celebrities; she’s beautiful, has stack loads of talent and comes across as really down to earth. And now, if I wasn’t jealous of her enough, I have serious hair envy! That fringe, the gorgeous highlights… I think I need to pay a visit to Toni & Guy ASAP.

What do you think? Would you go for the chop?

Lust Have: Topshop lipgloss stick in glisten

4 Oct

Lipstick is one of my favourite things in the world. I have thousands, everything from Chanel reds to on-trend oranges from the likes of Barry M and Collection 2000. So when I stumbled onto the Topshop website and came across their gorgeous lipgloss stick in glisten, I knew it had to be mine. The moisturing lipgloss– a perfect reddish pink- will look gorgeous worn alone over a bit of lipbalm. And is it just me who adores luxe gold packaging? Swooooon!

Soap and Glory Clean Mary Cleansing Milk Review

4 Aug

I’ve recently become a major Soap and Glory fan after acquiring a few products through the City WI tombola (and a rather glam tombola it was!) One of the items I got my hands on was Soap and Glory’s Clean Mary Cleansing Milk. With the weather being so up and down, my pores have decided to attack and my skin is just feeling a little grubby right now. The Clean Mary Cleansing Milk is a lightweight formula that claims to shrink pores, banish blackheads and leaving skin feeling free of that polluted feeling that summer can bring. And I am in love!

Apply a 50p sized amount of the cleansing milk to your face and rub in large circular motions to really stimulate those evil pores, rinse well and then simple pat dry. What takes around 60 seconds will leave your skin feeling soft, squeaky clean and back to its normal healthy self all day long. I use this product then apply my favourite SPF moisturiser for during the day or simply use it when I’ve taken my make-up off in the evening and need to give my skin a chance to breathe.

I’ve tried a lot of cleansers but they can often feel the same to me, never quite getting things as clean as I like them, but this product really does beat them all. And whilst I’ll still use my favourite Boots No7 hot cloth cleanser for when my skin needs a little radiance, Soap and Glory’s cleansing milk really has taken over this summer. Dare I say it… I think I’ve found my Holy Grail cleanser!

If there’s not an option to win this product in a tombola, you can purchase it from ASOS for £6.15 for 180ml.

Earth Lovers unite

25 Jul

The Body Shop’s Earth Lovers range is a collection of refreshing shower gels with a multitude of goodness stacked into one little bottle. Not only is the bottle itself 100% biodegradable but the product is completely free of nasty sulphates, parabens and colourants which means it’s extra kind on your skin.

The soap free wash lathers up beautifully with a silky soft moisturising feel on the skin. I’ve purchased two of these since the launch- cucumber and mint is perfect for hot, sticky summer evenings and the fig and rosemary scent feels beautifully indulgent.

Priced at £5 for 250ml, be good to yourself and the earth.

My Favourite… No7 Products

5 Jun

Who else has been taking advantage of the Boots £5 off vouchers? I know I certainly have! And, as I’ve got older, I’ve really taken to Boots No7 cosmetics for a high-street luxury treat. And whilst I certainly don’t shun a little dip into the Barry M/Bourjois/Miss Sporty stands, No7 is winning for me!

I’ve come across some No7 gems over the past year or so and therefore thought I’d write a little post about what I suggest you pick up with your voucher!

N07 Radiance Boosting Hot Cloth Cleanser, £9 normally or £4 with voucher:

Described as very similar to the legendary Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish, this huge bottle of cleanser comes with a super soft muslin cloth and provides gorgeous soft skin. A perfect end-of-the-day relaxation treat.

No7 Skin Illuminator, £11 normally or £6 with voucher:

I’m always after glowing skin so I’ve been on the lookout for something to wear under my foundation. This light, peachy formula comes with a brush dispenser for easy application and provides a pretty glow that lasts all day.

No7 Triple Protection Tinted Moisturiser, £12 normally or £7 with voucher:

Tinted moisturiser is perfect for summer and, after watching a fab video by A Model Recommends, I dashed out and picked this one up. The fair shade matches my light skin perfectly and the SPF15 gets the thumbs up from me!

N07 Anti-Aging Shimmering Lip And Eye Screen SPF30, £7 normally or £2 with voucher:

A few years ago I went through the horrid misfortune of having sunburnt lips. Trust me, they were sore. Ever since that summer, I’ve vowed to protect my lips as best as I can and, this summer, I’ll be using this shimmering lip and eye screen. The SPF30 in it guards me against blistered lips whilst the slight shimmer is the perfect partner to a summer tan.

No7 Stay Perfect Sultry Sands Nail Polish, £7 normally or £2 with voucher:

The Stay Perfect range or nail polishes are by far one of my favourites out there; the highly pigmented colours really do stay perfect and I can easily get a week without a single chip. So when I spied the new Sultry Sands polish from the summer collection, I knew I had to have it! This yellowish gold will flatter all skin tones and the shimmery sparkle will see you through any summer occasion. Perfect!

So, there we have it, my favourite No7 products- all amazing quality and fab for the price (especially when you throw in the vouchers!) And here’s a quick list of the other products I really want to try, do let me know if you’ve already tested them out:

Vouchers are available when you spend £5 or more in Boots and last until 19th June 2011.

My latest beauty essentials

26 Mar

Hello! Sorry for the absence the past few weeks have been crazy! I’ve had everything from a serious virus to university deadlines and sadly losing my pet guinea pig Horatio. Needless to say, I’m in some major need of some pampering and I thought I’d share with you the top 10 products which are getting me through right now.

1. Tesco baby shampoo, 500ml, 80p. For the last 2 months or so I’ve been struck down with a mystery illness which has seen my hair frizz and dry up like never before. Having tried extra moisturising products on my hair, the virus appeared to also make my scalp extra sore. The only thing that really worked for me has been Tesco baby shampoo, it has a thin consistency and is gentle on the most sensitive of skin. As well as soothing my scalp, I also found the baby shampoo to give my hair lift and bounce. Not bad for 80p, eh?

2. Tesco baby bath, 500ml, 82p. Sticking with the baby theme, I’ve been using this baby bath as a shower gel after long days. The smell totally takes me back to my childhood and is the most gorgeous comfort when lathered up and soaked into the skin.

3. 17 Nail Xtras crackle top coat, 10ml, £3.99. I picked this up in my local Boots store earlier this week and only got round to applying it today but I really do love it. The colour of the crackle coat reminds me of those big gold marker pens the teachers had in junior school that you were only allowed to use at Christmas to write out a homemade card to your mum. My only piece of advice would be to make sure the undercoat is fully dry and apply a thin coat to get a better effect.

4. Barry M berry ice-cream nail paint, 10ml, £2.99. I’ve only just bought this Barry M shade of lilac and wish I hadn’t waited so long. Released last year as part of the Barry M ice-cream range, berry ice-cream offers a highly pigmented spring colour that’s perfect for teaming with a sparkly top coat or stick on nail flowers.

5. MAC Wonder Woman lipstick in Spitfire, £15. The most beautiful and yet most powerful of all superheroines, Wonder Woman makes her MAC debut with a, er, wonderful range featuring this plumping plum lipstick. With my fair colouring and ginger hair, I never thought a purple shade would work well on me but that’s the joy of going into the MAC store and swatching everything, I guess. I’d gone in hoping to buy Russian Red but this pink toned purple worked so much better on me and I certainly think it would suit most skin tones.

6. Dr Organic tea tree lip balm, 5.7ml, 1p-£3.25. That’s right, I paid a penny for this super moisturising lip balm. Holland and Barrett currently have their penny sale on which means you buy one thing at full price and another for a mere shiny penny. I’d gone into Holland and Barrett to pick up some Omega 3 pills to help me focus but this was the gem I came out with. The chunky balm provides calming relief for even the most dry of pouts. The tea tree oil helps repair cracks whilst the shea butter makes lips feel pillow soft. It’s a wonderful balm to apply before lipstick or throughout the day.

7. Body Shop vitamin C daily moisturiser with SPF30, 50ml, £10. Did any of you buy the brilliant Body Shop Groupon voucher? I certainly snapped it up and recently waltzed down to Nottingham’s Bridlesmith Gate to spend, spend, spend in one of my favourite stores. Between the lavender spray and body butters, I also picked up some products from their new vitamin C range which was launched to combat dull skin. The hydrating facial moisturiser is packed with goodness including Amazonian camu camu berry. I apply this before make-up to help fight wrinkle causing UVA/UVB rays. So far so good!

8. Body Shop Illuminating Face Base, £14. Another recent Body Shop purchase was the illuminating face base. With pretty packing designed by the students of London College of Fashion, this peachy wonder is advertised to be used before foundation but I much, much, much prefer to use it alone. With an amazing glow that I’ve craved for years, this base can be applied to cheeks for that inner radiant look that only the most gorgeous of pregnant women have. With an integrated brush, the product can be applied easily and one simple sweep on each cheek is enough to last all day.

9. Avon Super Shock mascara, 10ml, £5. As a total devotee to Avon’s incredible Spectralash mascara, I wasn’t too bothered when I received the Super Shock mascara as a free gift from my Avon rep. However, when having a rather lazy day with mum, I tested the mascara after applying my moisturiser and I was actually really pleased. Spectralash gives me the lashes I’ve always dreamed of- thick, long and sexy but Super Shock provides something a little more subtle. With a fine comb and non-gloop formula, the mascara gave me really long lashes whilst also separating and coating each individual lash. Very impressed!

10. Directions hair colour, around £5, flamingo pink. I know what you’re thinking, why would I be raving about a pink hair dye when I clearly love my ginger locks? Well, er, I have a confession… I’ve dyed my hair. Pink. I’m sorry. After reaching for the bleach and then this semi-permanent colour, I realise there was no going back… I have pink hair and I like it! This shade is really bright but fades quickly so I think the fortnightly dying jobs might drive me a bit mad but the colour actually really suits me and it’s just fun! All hail coloured hair!

Premier Cru- The Eye Cream: Your eyes won’t believe their eyes.

2 Feb

When a face cream becomes the number one selling anti-aging formula in France, you know it’s time to sit up and take note- those chic French women aren’t all naturally radiant, I’m sure. So when I was invited to trail the follow-up eye cream by Caudalie, I couldn’t resist.

The first thing that strikes you about the cream is the luxurious packaging; with gold and silver colouring, it has an air of scientific product about it make it all the more promising.

With its formulation including grapevine resveratrol and grape-seed polyphenols, Premier Cru Eye Cream has truly been crafted by the masters. Made to combat signs of wrinkles, loss of elasticity, dark circles, puffiness, dark spots, loss of radiance and dehydration, you’d be surprised that all you need is a half a pump of the formula both in the morning and at night.

Whilst I’m not suffering wrinkles yet, I am on a major prevention plan which basically involves good quality products that work for my skin. I suffer terribly from puffy, sore eyes and I’ve been haunted with dark circles under my eyes as an after effect of a poor immune system caused by an illness in my teens.

After my usual skin regime on a morning and evening, I applied the suggested pump of the eye cream around the inner and outer corners of my eyes, dabbing really gently with my little finger.

Containing a deliciously soft avocado butter, the cream smoothed into my skin in an instant and left them noticeably cooler. I’ve been using Premier Cru Eye Cream for around three weeks now and I’m really happy with the results:

  • Dark circles have been reduced by around 70%
  • Inflamed skin around the eyelid has all but vanished.
  • Puffiness on a morning isn’t as noticeable and is soothed with the eye cream.
  • Whole eye area feels less sore, swollen and tight due to the replumping effect this product has.

I’ve recommended this product to a few people on Twitter and I can’t suggest it enough. Whether you’re in your early 20s and looking for something to sooth away the effects of late nights or whether you’re in your 70s and looking to smooth out deep-set wrinkles, this product really is my wonder cream. I’m so thankful to have come across it.

With an RRP of £48.50 for 15ml, it might sound pricey at first but it’s a much better option to wasting cash on products which you’ll discard after a few days. Premier Cru Eye Cream is available across the UK in Selfridges and Space NK.

One Night Strand.

21 Jan

I’ve wanted to dye my hair pink for ages. Indeed, purple or blue would do. Can you imagine the admiring looks you’d get from passers-by for being so brave as to don a candyfloss coloured do?

Alas, working in the fields of B2B PR and modelling kind of restrict my hair colour options- and I’d miss my signature ginger locks far too much! It was when pondering how to transform my barnet into something rainbow coloured that my lovely mother discovered Lee Stafford’s Colour Extreme sprays.

The Colour Extreme spray comes in a wide range of colours including ultra violet (which I’m currently sporting now), passionate pink, rockin red and azure blue. I’ve taken to plaiting my hair and then spraying the braid a pretty pink or purple for a slightly bohemian look.

The best thing about the sprays, apart from their super reasonable £3.99 price tag, has to be the fact that they’re wash-in/wash-out. So if you’re in a slightly “sensible” job like I am or you don’t fancy keeping the colour, you just pop your head under the shower and you’re back to normal!

The Colour Extreme sprays are brilliant for weekends, parties or festivals. I’m planning on adding blue to my collection!

Priced at around £3.99, the Lee Stafford Colour Extreme sprays are available at Boots and selected online retailers. Get colouring!

My Guardian Angel

2 Jan

Over the winter, I was very kindly sent the Guardian Angel balm by Vie At Home and felt it was only right to report it has been my saving grace these past few weeks! I’m a sucker for anything which will protect my skin but, after trying all sorts of wonder balms and creams, I wasn’t sure what to expect.

The first thing that overwhelmed me about this product was the beautiful smell! The balm is filled with evening primrose oil, sage, cinnamon and rosemary but, to me, it smelt more like a soothing lavender which- as you know- is my favourite! I applied the product to my lips to replenish my cracked pout and the non-sticky formula instantly felt cooling and moisturising. I also found the product to be fab as a lipgloss- the boyfriend never stopped complimenting me on how glossy and seductive my lips looked when I had it on.

Packed with vitamins A, C and E, the balm is great for anywhere on the body that needs a little moisture. When I burned myself on the oven, I used it to calm the redness. When I ran out of mascara, I applied a little to my fingertip and it instantly gave length to my lashes. And when my cuticles were looking all sore and unhealthy, the Guardian Angel balm came to my rescue yet again and gave me healthy looking nails.

I’m a massive fan of the balm and cannot recommend it enough! It costs £13 and you can pop one in your basket through Vie At Home and online.
